Although there are many non-native invasive plant and animal species that, under the right conditions, can become a threat to the environment, there are certain aquatic species that are of particular concern to the aquarium and ornamental water garden trade.

The most common aquatic invasive plants and animals that aquarium hobbyists, backyard pond owners and water gardeners should be familiar with include:
